Covered by Medicare limited to the treatment of disuse atrophy where the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerve supply are intact and other non-neurological reasons for the patient's disuse are causing the atrophy, e.g., in cases involving casting or splinting of a limb, contracture involving scarring of soft tissue (as in burn lesions) or hip replacement (until orthotic training begins).
